March 2010 – NNEF All Day Meeting (Southampton)
Friday 19th March 2010, 10am – 3pm
Central Hall, St Mary Street, Southampton, SO14 1NF
This meeting will showcase examples of good practice from across the UK. For 2010, there will be a special focus on the practical, ‘bolt-on’ services that can easily be delivered alongside needle and syringe exchange to improve appeal, client contact numbers and service quality. A full agenda will be published in early 2010, and we plan to include:
- engaging peer exchangers
- encouraging route transitions
- providing a full range of paraphernalia
- providing auricular acupuncture
- proactively reducing drug-related litter
- supporting recovery and abstinence
This event is highly relevant to needle exchange workers, managers, commissioners, advocates and service users. As always, the NNEF meeting will enable those involved in needle exchange provision to share knowledge, good practice and experiences across the UK, with the ultimate outcome of improving services. The meeting is FREE for all NNEF members, and NNEF membership itself is FREE. Therefore, given the increasing financial restrictions that many workers face in terms of conferences and training, this is an excellent opportunity. Attendance certificates can also be provided to go towards your CPD portfolio.

The National Needle Exchange Forum hosted a ‘Fringe Meeting’ at the National Conference on Injecting Drug Use (NCIDU) in London, and used the opportunity to launch a survey and consultation for NNEF members on the issue of foil provision in needle exchanges. The results of this survey would then be presented to the Technical Committee of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.
